Unless you are planning on using ADE 2.0.1 for testing ePub2 books, I would install the latest (4.5.12?) version.

You don't need ADE any longer to download ePub. The De-ACSM plugin does an excellent job of downloading ePub direct into your calibre library and if you have DeDRM installed and setup, the DRM will be removed automatically.

Interesting. As near as I can tell in testing over the years, ADE stores the books in it's library with DRM. Adding the book to calibre's library uses whatever, if any, DeDRM you have installed.

Ever since I've started using De-ACSM, I've not needed to download eBooks with ADE. The problem with ADE is because it stores the eBooks in it's own library, it gets slower and slower to load as it has to read the library on start.

Only install ADE if you want to use to it view eBooks. If you want to see how ePub3 eBooks look as ePub2, install ADE 2.0.1.

Personally, I do not import library books and other loans into calibre. I do create an empty entry with the book metadata, etc. so that I can keep track of which books I have read. For me, removing DRM from books I pay for and want to keep backups of is legitimate/morally acceptable. Keeping copies of loans whether they be library, Kindle Unlimited or Kobo Plus is not.

Those people who are in areas where they are unable to get Amazon format library loans for their Kindle eInk ereaders, well, that is up to their consciences. And note that this is only for Kindle eInk devices, iOS, Android & FireOS can install an ePub reader app.
