book name and author came in bad

i edited the book and changed the name and author

ie title: test
authur: test

title: Historical Atlas Of The Outlaw West
author: RICHARD PATTERSON

then SAVE to DISK AND I GET A GOOD FILE NAME(GREAT)
but WHEN i RE-IMPORT TO CALIBIRE OR ANOTHER EPUB READER THE
TEST TEST COMES BACK AS THE FILE(DSN)??

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE "TEST"S HIDDEN SOMEWHERE ????
OR EDIT THEM FOR REAL???? TKS 75 YR OLD (i know u r 83 or were last time u yelled at me)(NEVER GOT AUTHOR/AUTHOR SORT FIGERED OUT EITHER)

When you edit the metadata in Calibre, you then need some way to embed those changes into the epub. It is this metadata in the ebook that is used for the new entry.
The method I use is to simply open the epub in the Editor (not the viewer) and close it again.
There are other ways, but don't use them, so can't remember what they are. Others will know.

Install the Modify ePub plugin. It has an option to update the metadata without doing any other unnecessary changed to the code. So once you edit the metadata in calibre, Modify ePub can update the metadata of the ePub for you.

That changes the code more then Modify ePub.

So? Not everyone cares about changes to the code. I convert all my ebooks to remove some css entries en masse; that changes the code far more. I don't care about changes to the code.

For me, the advantage of using Modify EPUB is that there's as option to remove the non-Dublin Core metadata elements.

how do i find and enable Embed metadata???

also the "double edit" response

at least i think i know what you said to try.. of course it did not seem to work.

i edit individually.. changed title and auth. save . cal showed the new name.. i saved to disk good name put back in cal bad name again

so then i edited it again(i think u said do that) then saved to disk same thing.. title test aut test?????????????????

If you are editing the book in calibre's ebook-editor, try opening the .opf file and looking for lines similar to the following lines:

Code:

<dc:title>1632</dc:title>
<dc:creator opf:role="aut" opf:file-as="Flint, Eric">Eric Flint</dc:creator>

<dc:title id="title1">The Inheritance</dc:title>
<dc:creator id="id-1">Ilona Andrews</dc:creator>

I have not understood what you are doing, or the result you want.

In calibre, the metadata of a book (e.g. title, author) are stored separately from the book file.

When a book is exported from calibre, the metadata is copied into the saved book file, but the file in calibre is unchanged.

Perhaps you could explain slowly, with numbered steps, what you're doing, clearly identifying the files you're talking about at each stage.

If you have any public domain books in your library, you could even upload copies of one particular book at the various stages.

Perhaps then someone will be able to tell you which bit is going wrong.

From the current description, it's impossible to say.

You don't always get the metadata updated when you Save to disk. I don't. I've set the option to not do it. I do it manually if I want it changed.
