I have had to buy new desktop PC as my old one was destroyed. Fortunately I had my Calibre library backed up elsewhere.I installed Calibre on the new PC thinking it would pick up my old library, but it did not. I saw the "Import/Export" option which I tried but no joy. Calibre doesn't recognise my old library. I have around 2000 books on there which were sourced from many different locations, most of them I have read , but numerous ones have not.
Can anyone help in this? I am not what anyone would describe as computer literate so please be aware if the experts reply. |

Copy your backup library directory onto your new computer in your documents directory
Use the Calibre ebooks:Switch/create library menu item and, making sure to have the Use a previously existing library at the chosen new location radio button selected, choose the copied directory in your documents directory, |

I'm since told by someone who's more of a Windows expert than I am that keeping the calibre library in your documents directory might not be a good idea. So the advice is to quit calibre, move the library to somewhere outside your documents directory, start calibre and point it to the library in its new location.
See this message in another thread. Apologies! |

FYI, If you have an internal second D drive or D drive partition on your main drive, you move your Calibre library(s) to the D drive. The main reason is if you ever have to reinstall Windows because it became corrupted and have to wipe the C drive when doing the reinstall. You should also have all your data files be on the D drive. This has saved me several times over the years.

Thanks for the info. Previously I had that sort of setup on my old PC, with a seperate partition on my drive, so I did install the old calibre library in a similar way on the D Drive. All is now functioning perfectly.
Thanks again for your invaluable advice |
