Help with a Failed Jailbreak
Went through all the Winterbreak steps here: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/kindle-models but one thing I noticed is that during the jailbreak process that the kindle went from FW 5.16.4 to FW 5.17.1.0.3 (4351900007). My Guess is that as soon as I connected it to WIFI from a very long airplane only mode it grabbed the latest update and the jailbreak had some issues.
Even though it didn't seem like it worked (had a bomb appear and saw a note about unable to mount FS and restarted), I was able to proceed and launch KUAL and use the OTArenamer script during the jailbreak workflow but after the last reboot launch KUAL again (just getting application error). I tried sticking the Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_KS2_install.bin on the root and within the mrpackages and doing the update but searching for ;log mrpi does nothing but actually search now and keep getting app error. I also tired re-running the "Run Hotfix" booklet but still getting app error. It's annoying I can't what state my kindle is currently in to figure out where to go next. On my home screen I have KUAL, KPPMainApp V2... (I never manually ran that), and Run Hotfix. FW now says 5.17.1.0.3 (4351900007) - 70971. So do I start over from scratch or any tips? p.s. One of the other things that sucks is I of course lost all of my books that were loaded via calibre once I took this thing out of airplane mode to do the jailbreak. meh.... Should have expected but Perhaps the next person will know better. Thanks in advance! |

Solved this with a little help from Discord Support and passthru to https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...56#post4481256 . I'll leave the thread up just in case someone else hits it.
Basically my kindle (which had been in AP mode forever) decided to pull the OTA within the moments I was online with the store. Annoying feature that, seems like there could be a DNS hostname added or something to prevent pulling in amazon stuff. Anyways, resetting the firmware by grabbing the current version I was on (for my device) from here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...MQC26VQQMM8XSW and then following the jailbreak steps from scratch did the trick. Now to learn KOReader and get all the dang books I lost back... |
