invert screen (developer options)

Is there any way the invert screen setting in the developer options would cause any damage to the device? I tried it out and kinda prefer it for night time use, just don't want to cause any long term damage to the display. The device in question is a kobo glo hd.

Invert screen will not cause any screen damage. It was an older item from before Kobo added Dark Mode. When I last played with invert screen, I ended up having to set the screen refresh basically to every page otherwise the ghosting got too annoying.

I still have it set as an option in Nickelmenu including the restart after enabling.

Thanks dnsb, that's good to know. I also noticed the increased ghosting

One issue I have is that the device seems to want a full reboot every time I change the setting, this is even after I patched it to replace the adobe page number toggle in the normal book menu. Is this nickelmenu thing you mention to remedy that situation?

You must always reboot in order to change the inverted screen mode. NickelMenu can only save you a few button presses by making the device automatically reboot when you change the inverted screen setting.

Thanks man, in the nickel menu config There's separate options for dark mode and invert screen. I'm on a glo HD which doesn't explicitly have a dark mode feature, is it OK to activate it on nickelmenu or is it only for devices that actually have a dark mode feature?

I'll answer my own question for the benefit of others who may find it useful...

Activating the "night mode" on nickelmenu indeed gives you the ability to toggle it even on devices without a native night mode (at least on a glo HD) WITHOUT having to reboot the device. Take note that it will not fully invert the display (menus etc) only the book that you're reading - works great, thanks to all involved in the development and release of this tool
