The Internet Archive is currently undergoing some issues after a DDoS. I'd temporarily disable the Archive.org plugin in Plugins (iirc, it's included by default) and see if that helps.

Have you tried updating calibre? 3.39.1 is from Feb. 2019 so getting very long in the tooth.
