How to sort EPUB and KEPUB on Kobo
I recently moved from Kindle to Kobo and transferred all my books as EPUB. Along the way I also transferred many books as KEPUB as well, but had formatting problems with the later version of KoboTouchExtended, which meant going back to EPUBs. I've downgraded ETE to an earlier version, which is fine, but I've ended up with multiple copies of many books.
Is there any way I can identify the EPUB and KEPUB files using Calibre so that I can delete the duplicate EPUBs? I tried Calibre's Duplicate extension, which works fine on the library, but doesn't seem to work on the device. Apart from deleting everything and starting again, is there any way to list the device duplicates so I can remove the EPUB if there is a coreesponding KPUB? |

Not in Calibre. You can use the File Explorer or its equivalent on a Mac - epubs have the file extension .epub, while kepubs have .kepub.epub.
But this requires going through the author folders one by one, if you used the default settings when sending the books over. |

As for the default author directories, that (IMHO) is a really bad idea. I've made a directory called books where I put all of my eBooks on my Libra 2. That way I don't have a mess of directories I don't want. This is the Save template that I use... Code:
books/{author} - {series} {series_index:0>2s|| - } {title} Last edited by JSWolf; 01-02-2025 at 04:17 PM. |

Maybe try turning off "Hide extensions for known file types"? Interestingly, I checked this, and File Explorer still shows the extensions (Adobe Digital Editions) for both .kepub.epub and .epub. I tried changing the default program for .kepub.epub, but I was unable to. |

So if you change where the eBooks are sent on your Kobo and not author directories, it would be very easy to see the duplicate files. In author directories, it's a lot more difficult.

My suggestion is:
for books already on the device inside kobo driver, on calibre, you can customize the collections on the device and show the books grouped that way for newer books I think the best option is to use metadata plugboard to insert the format on the title of the book or change the save template to include the format |

You can always control-click on the book and select "open book folder/open book folder." This will show the actual file(s) in the Finder on the Mac (not sure about Windows)

What I want to do idealy, using Calibre, is to show duplicate books on Kobo in a window and be able to delete the .epub ones, keeping the .kepub.epub.
However, I can't get Calibre to show the duplicates in Kobo in a window. If anyone can tell me how to do that I would be grateful. Ray D |

In my case, I keep epub in Calibre library and send kepub to kobo using kobo touch extended. Last edited by hatuluang; 01-10-2025 at 06:10 AM. |
