Magical Clara 2E charging while unplugged

So today I added a book to my Clara 2E and was fascinated to see that it was still charging after I ejected and unplugged the device.

It was so mesmerizing that I watched it for about four minutes and then tried opening a book and going back to "My Books" - sadly it stopped charging. I know it's not really charging, but I'm concerned that it may be a symptom of something failing, or about to fail. Has anyone had this experience? |

An eink will display last image if CPU unexpectedly sleeps. Even if panel is unplugged.

Very occasionally when I tap sleep button nothing seem to happen. But screen swipes or taps or button presses are ignored. Later the sleep screen might appear. It will briefly show the sleep screen when you tap to wake. On LCD, Plasma, CRT, EL, LED, OLED you get a blank screen if cpu "forgets" to update, or screen/panel disconnected. Eink is practically nano-steam-punk. See also the insanity of DLP, but though it's also nano-mechanical, it's probably not bistable. |

What's much likelier is that the USB plug/charger detection on these devices is incredibly finicky (i.e., so much so that the detection is probably debounced and delayed to avoid false positives/negatives as much as possible), coupled with the fact the the battery meter is also basically a cosmetic illusion and shouldn't be relied on for much of anything.

I just tried it again. While sleeping it shows charging (from a power brick) and when I disconnect, it takes a second or two to show "not-charging". I did it several times with the same result.

Next, I plugged it into my PC and connected while using Calibre, I ejected and also had to disconnect from the USB icon, and that took about four, or five seconds to show "not-charging". Again, I did it several times with the same result. The reason for the post is that I had never noticed the Clara keeping the charging icon on for that long. I suppose you could both be right, it was just so unusual. Thanks. Edit: I forgot to mention that I used the same cord and the same USB ports as when I had the strangeness. |

This happened to my Clara 2E when I used an Apple usb c to usb c cable. I never experienced it with my Clara HD so it's reassuring to know that it's not just my device.
