Full Text Search and Parenthesis?

I know this is simple, and I've learned regex for the other searches, but I can't seem to figure out how to include special characters, specifically ( or ) in full-text search. I think it'll accept ASCII, but I don't exactly know how to read the table, let alone how to input it so that the search will accept it.

So, a general answer would be great, because I'm sure I'll need things like : and - at some point, but if you could also just tell me how to make it find (new) in the text, that'd be swell.

full text search is word based, so it cant search for special characters as they are not words. You might be able to do something like

NEAR("(" "new" ")" 3)

For EPUB files, I believe you can use the Quality Check Plugin Search ePubs tool, as it can run regex based searches.
