Tell Kindle4PC to not download books

Is there a way to tell Kindle4PC (1.20) to not download certain books? Every time I open it I'm presented with a dozen boxes saying I need to update it in order to download some of my books. I refuse to update it-I download those books via USB.
I suppose I could remove them from my library once I download them but I'd rather not do that-my library serves as a record of which books I've bought from Amazon.
So I'd rather just tell K4PC not to try & download these books-if it's possible.
Thanks.
