Elipsa upgrade possible?

The Elipsa has 227 pixels per sq. inch and also no ability to adjust the color. Otherwise it is fantastic. The Sage has a much better screen, with 300 pixels per sq. inch and also allows the screen to change colors from bluer to yellower. The new Amazon Sage has a screen the same size as the Elipsa but has 300 pixels per sq inch and also yellow/blue adjustment. Is there any chance that Kobo might upgrade the Elipsa to the better screen? In many ways, I find the Elipsa superior to the Sage -- I much prefer its software. But the screen is a problem.

Doesn't the Elipsa have a 10.3" screen vs. the Sage's 8"? 2+" is significant in the diagonal.

As far as the yellow/blue LED frontlight...yeah, the Elipsa doesn't have that.

I only have a Libra...but thought all Kobo software operated similarly to each other. Plus/Minus hardware dependent features.

The Amazon device is the Scribe, not the Sage. Sage is Kobo's 8-inch device - the one Kobo without a 'matching' Kindle competitor

Sorry, I messed this up. I meant the Amazon Scribe has a screen the same size as the Elipsa (10.3 inches). My point is that if the Kobo Elipsa had a 10.3 inch with the same resolution and color adjustment as the 8 inch Kobo Sage, it would be extremely useful, and make the Elipsa better in most ways than the Amazon Scribe. The Elipsa has 230 psi with no color adjustment while the Sage has 300 with color adjustment. I really wish Kobo would update the Elipsa in this way.

10.3 inches, 300DPI, warmlight, Kobo user interface, USB 3 ..... BRING IT!

To me that would be the ultimate e-reader. I don't think any more than 300DPI would bring anything to the party and 10.3" is the size of a hardback which is as big as I would want, probably light enough to hold for a decent reading session.

I've been waiting for this since the days of the Kindle DX.

The battery pen used on MS Surface & Kobo is far better than the ancient Wacom or Wacom EMR. I've used all three. That's why MS bought the original company. It does have 4096 levels and tilt. It's cheap and lasts maybe 6 months, longer shelf life. The AAAA cell is also better than a rechargeable for run time and replacement.

Apple doesn't use the Wacom (AFAIK the only tablet powered stylus) either.

I'd like a 13″ to 14″ 300dpi screen first.

This is interesting -- I haven't used the Kobo pen much. I just assumed it unnecessarily complicated compared to the Wacom one. I'll give it a try and see. Thanks. Also, unless I've missed something, on the Elipsa/Sage, one cannot change the pen thickness for a pdf.

That's just the software for mark-up.

Curiously the Kobe pen (and my MS Survace 3rd party one) works on the Libra 2, but only on the sketch pad (which can be enabled on Sage & Elipsa by devmodeon). It does fat if you hold lower button and erase on upper.

On the Kobo the pressure sense is used to either mark/draw or not rather than vary darkness or width, again that's just software. The Wacom and Wacom EMR can start to move cursor or draw (on occasion and depending on device) before you press on the screen, though even my oldest serial port Wacom "tablet" was pressure sensitive. The USB Bamboo seems to be similar HW but just serial over USB. The X201 Lenovo Wacom digitiser is an internal serial device. The regular Wacom and Wacom EMR seem similar but are not compatible. I tried swapping the Wacom EMR on the reMarkable with the other Wacom styluses.
I've tried Apple Pencil on Sage and Kobo/MS Pen on iPad. That's a fourth incompatible system. I've only seen rechargeable Apple Pencils and a €20 3rd party one works perfectly on iPad.

I think the Nebo files from Sage/Elipsa work on Nebo on iPad, but not vice versa.

Obviously the Libra 2 has the digitiser, unlike the Libra H2O. I wonder will they release an update for annotation and Nebo/Notebooks. The Sage or Elipsa FW won't work directly as those are different HW from each other and Libra 2.

The Wacom styluses (regular and EMR) are full of electronics and sensors, but powered from the host drawing tablet or digitizer under the screen. The battery powered ones (Kobo/MS or Apple) might be simpler.
The original Wacom has no tilt sensor, which the Kobo/MS and Apple do. It's also maybe only 256 levels of pressure. The 4096 is a bit mad on a screen with only 14 grey, black and white!

Maybe. Kobo has a new Reading in the works. All we know is that it supports a pen. We don't know the screen size or the screen resolution or DPI.

Somewhat unreliable source.

The Libra 2 but not Libra H20 actually has stylus support in HW. Only SW support is in the Sketchpad.

It could be anything. It seems a little soon for a 300 dpi 10.3″ model unless they've had the screen nearly as long as Amazon. The FCC application (and CSA, CE UKCA etc) is only done when you have working ones identical to production. It's not like patent, design patent, copyright or trademark applications/registrations (they don't need more than drawings and text).
