How to use Calibre.

I do hope that this is the correct part of your forum to ask the following question would someone please move it to where it should be.

I am not an expert user of this medium so please bear with me.

My intentional use of eBooks is as follows. To read and cut and paste sections onto items I am studying as my dyslexia menas that reading a few words and then typing them is made difficult by me forgetting them by the time I have got to the new page whereas if I can cut and paste it to what I'm working on I can move much faster.

I have a few eBooks on Kindle and on Kobo. I have just discovered that Kindle has a number of operating issues that will restrict my use of eBooks. I decided that it makes sense to place all my eBooks on one application but discovered on a forum that is not possible and that Calibre is a better application to use.

I downloaded what looks like what I need but could find no way to copy a picture of the icon to this message. The title is, "Calibre 64bit – E-book"

My immediate problem is that I don't have the faintest idea how to start using it to do the following things.
1. To attempt to move my existing eBooks on Kindle and Kobo to Calibre library.
2. To purchase new eBooks.

I hope the above makes sense. I'm now being dragged out to a duty family Boxing Day visit so thats me away for the afternoon. Many thanks.
