Libra Password woes

I have 2 kobos which are signed into an account. One was setup 10 or more years ago and although i know the email, I have forgotten and can't guess the password.

So I try password recovery, I get sent a link to create new password but every time I invent a new password I get "something went wrong" use this link to start again...

This from multiple browsers, 2days running.

I ensure new password fits their rules : 8 or more charz with number and a mix of cases.

Nothing works

So is there any way to recover my password by hacking the one of the devices.

Libra 1 or aura hd. Both logged into same kobo account. With my current email address.

Or any fix for the broken reset password process?

It is likely that any 10 year old password I made was a lowercase string. Perhaps with a 1 at the end. I don't think they had stringent rules back then. Dunno if that is a factor
I'd really like to continue with that account and get in to add a valid payment card... But how?

I have made a different email kobo account to use if all else fails. I had a hard time creating that because all my password attempts were rejected as not string enough. I had to let Google create and save a strong gobbledegook password.

I have tried using that same, accepted, password as my new password also in that password reset process. But it still leads to something went wrong, start again...

And final puzzle. With the new account , on my pc, I log in and go to the account settings page. There, I see a long list of" link to" options.
The first is an option to " link to "a kobo account. But this is a kobo acount already that I am in, that I just created? Am I allowed to link to another kobo account?. I don't understand the proffered link aoption

Perhaps the easiest solution would be to merge your old account into the new one and then reset your Kobos to the new account? It was a straightforward process done over the phone.

My old account on the kobo is also the main account I use for everything , including my Adobe ID .

Having to change Adobe ID would be an unwanted nightmare.

So I would really like to solve why I can't recover or reset the password for it.

Giving up and using a different account is a last resort.

Preferably without phoning kobo, as they may tell me to sign out on the devices, thus !osing stuff...

Confusingly

, I can use sign in with Google on pc at kobo.com , that gets me into the account whose password I have forgotten.
I don't get any account already exists or email in use crap, straight in... But no different way to change password once 8n

But back when I set up the devices, I must have had a password that I coukd type in on the device,not a goolge assist that only works on pc.
Pretty sure I never used kobo desktop And that I was able to set up devices without that

I could try sign in with Google, add a visa card, then see if that card is available to the device when I access store from device... I suspect that would fail though....

on PC i can "sign in with google and get into account that I have lost password for, and it is syncing OK - I can see books which are on the Kobo, and the kobo receives a free book that i " bought" while signed in with google on PC

i also downloaded the kobo pc desktop software and once again , sign in work google works

so maybe, if I had a new device, I could connect that to desktop and set it up with that same account, without knowing or being able to change the password.

[ my main concern was that I would need the password to type into any new or reset device ]

but I have tried every way possible to do a password reset, and evert test leads to " something went wrong" when I submit a different password

i guess I just have to live with it, of find out it calling Kobo from Uk works

I believe a "Kobo Account" and Adobe ID are two separate things. They do not have to have the same email.

Plus, I wouldn't use an account I don't remember the password for as my main account for anything. What if you had to get a new pc?

I use a tried and true analog method for backing up my passwords - written on a paper sheet, which is not lying around on a desk for all to see. Works every time.

its a gmail account - i know the gmail password!

Anyhow i conclude that kobo password repair server is kaput.
i spotted that my oldest kobo ( aura HD) was signed into a different email accoutn, so I asked kobo to reset the password for that. got the same something went wrong outcome
and that one is not a gmail account so I cant use the sign in with google cheat

the thing about adobe ID was that, if I was persuaded to sign out of kobo on device, would it wipe everything useful, including that ID. so then I have to remember now to fix it

You just copy the Adobe activation file and put it back later.

thanks but not the sort of thing id remember when some muppet at Kobo support is saying go ahead sign out it wont damage anything.

anyway, this oldest one probably will get signed out. my son wants it, after falling out of love with his kindle, and wants to be able to shop at kobo store, so we need to get it set up with an account he can control

No need to remember it. If you have davidfor's KoboUtilities plugin installed in calibre, the automatic backup includes the adobe-digital-editions directory.
