Duplicate check when adding books - only title?

Currently, when adding a book, the title of the book is checked against existing books. So about 90% of the time I end up with a false positive against another book from different author or occasionally even a fanfic.

Is there a reason it only checks title, and not also author?

Because Author names are really fuzzy (in usage)?

Yep! It is a real PITA to always check after a metadata download.
Pub A does it 1 way of a couple of books, then a different way on others

I can sorta understand, if the books had different publishers. Only sorta.
They are helping no one, by making them different. They SHOULD want to have ANY search for that author, come up with all the titles. "He has that many books? He must be good!"

AFAIK I don't think I have a title with the almost same (really different) Author. OTOH I think I have a couple with the same name, BUT NOT the same person. Or only the Initial is the tie breaker.

I use the Find Duplicates plugin to run 'metadata variations' on author and publisher every so often. More often than not, I get a few results, especially on Publisher.
