3.0 Validator validating under 2.0.1 rules?
I am losing my mind over this, and after much googling I discovered this forum. Hopefully someone can help or at least point me in the right direction.
I have an ebook I created and exported from InDesign as an EPUB 3.0. It has a lot of linked endnotes. I have run it through a couple different validators, all of which claimed to be 3.0 validators, but whenever I run it, I get 376 errors, which fall under two categories: 1) "Error while parsing file: Duplicate •endnote-002-backJink' " (all of these reference an endnote link) 2) "File 'OEBPS/font/[every embedded font in my epub] could not be decrypted." Part I of the problem: Obviously, something is up with the endnote links and fonts. But I've opened this book in Kindle Previewer (which is not detecting any errors when I run a quality check), Calibre, and Adobe Digital Editions. In all three ebook viewers, the links both from the superscript number in the text to the endnote and from the endnote back to its referenced text work perfectly fine! And while Kindle Previewer is not showing the embedded fonts (it always shows the plain text version), both Calibre and Adobe Digital Editions are displaying all fonts correctly.) Why am I getting an error if it actually works? Part II of the problem: Even though these validators claim to be 3.0 validators, they are all giving me this note along with the errors: "Validating using EPUB version 2.0.1 rules.(https://gi thub.com/w ±/epubcheck)" I'd like to also add that the Kindle Previewer is not picking up any errors when I run a quality check, and So I have three questions, that may or may not all have the same answer: 1) Why am I getting errors even when the links/fonts seem to be working fine? 2) What do I do to get these errors to go away? 3) Why are all these validators validating with 2.0 rules if they are 3.0 validators and my epub is 3.0? Any help at all is appreciated. |

It would help if you provided a download for the ebook. You can scramble the book if it is copyrighted.
Are you using Calibre or Sigil. There is a scrambler for Calibre, not sure about Sigil as I don't use that one. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...25#post3213325 There is also an epubcheck plugin for Calibre that you can use. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=282067 |

There’s a Borkify plug-in for Sigil that’ll scramble it nicely. You probably don’t even need to show the whole book, just a small sample of representative areas. Slim it down to just the pages that’ll show the errors

You can use the ScrambleEbook plugin with Calibre to scramble your eBook so you can post it here for others to look at.
But as long as you are running Calibre, also install the epubcheck plugin and you can use that in the editor to check your eBook. As for the embedded fonts, do you really need them in the ePub? |

Open your book in an editor, select the .opf file and double-check the following line: Code:
<package version="2.0" ...
You can still convert it to an epub3 book: Calibre: Polish book > Upgrade book internals Sigil: ePub3-itizer plugin |
