Left align text in news feeds
Just a thought or request. A way/setting to globally set all recipes to "left align" body text somehow in the conversion process.
Justified texts from calibre to kindle always have large gaps in many lines, which makes reading flow kind of awkward. So I always customize all the recipes I have scheduled for download by adding to the recipe: extra_css = ''' body {text-align: left} ''' This works fine. But the disadvantage is that if later there happens to be a new/improved recipe available for that news feed I can't take advantage of it. I'm stuck with my customized, maybe even failing, recipe. Need to re-customize the new recipe. Strangely, though for Amazon maybe not so strange, most newsfeeds display in calibre with left aligned body text but by the time they arrive in my Kindle via email they become justified. The only way to ensure that Amazon creates a left aligned text is to add those "extra css" lines to the recipe itself. Funny thing is that if you get a paid Kindle subscription to a newspaper or magazine the text is usually justified, not left aligned, but done in such a way that there are not all those glaring gaps in the text flow. If there are "gaps" they show up at the end of lines, not in the middle. So I guess they're "quasi-justified". But texts that come through Amazon's conversion process (books or newsfeeds) have a lot of annoying mid-line gaps if they are justified. I have set the "common options" for epub or mobi to always left align text in the conversion process. That works fine for books. They keep the left alignment after being emailed to a Kindle. But newsfeeds do not. I don't know if those "common options" even apply to newsfeeds. |
