Error data base location

Hi
Every time I open the program I have the message "
Database location error" (direct translation).

Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre\gui2\main.py", line 306, in initialize_db_stage2 File "calibre\db\legacy.py", line 187, in __init__ File "calibre\db\legacy.py", line 44, in create_backend File "calibre\db\backend.py", line 467, in __init__ File "calibre\db\backend.py", line 1298, in user_version File "calibre\db\backend.py", line 1010, in conn File "calibre\db\backend.py", line 331, in __init__ apsw.CantOpenError: CantOpenError: unable to open database file

I've tried with the anti virus off but the result is the same.
The library and I don't know why, it's in "Read only" despite having already changed it.
I don't know what to do.

PS. I found out that if I open the file as "administrator" it opens normally.

Depending on the library location, you might want to move it to a location where you have rights on it (I use a directory called calibre in my user directory (C:\<username>\calibre) in which I store my calibre libraries. The other choice is to give yourself rights on the directory that your calibre library is stored in.

Check Give permissions to files and folders in Windows 10 for information on doing so.

What do you mean by "The library"? The library folder or the library database?

And do you mean the Read only attribute, or the Security Permissions?

That implies the Library folder is in a location without FULL (rwxrwxrwx) rights or you are not the owner.

yeah, it's something to do with how the security in Windows UAC works -- admin and non-admin programs can't really communicate with each other, and that breaks drag & drop.

Not always, I regularly drag drop tiffs from circa 2013 xplorer² (user priv) into circa 2005 vliv (admin priv).

When I mentioned "Library" it was the folder, d:/calibre/Library. Despite changing the attributes, it is always as "Read only".

Correction: Is not "d:/" but "d:\"

Don't worry about it, it's a peculiarity of the Windows/calibre interaction.

When calibre adds/changes/removes authors and books to the library it does it in the safest way possible, which involves complexities such as multiple hardllnks and temporary files - Windows gets confused. The black square simply means there were some read only files in here at some point in time.

IIRC some Spanish keyboard layouts don't have a backslash/slosh key, you have to use an Alt+number sequence, or a keyboard macro (e.g AHK).

@cmgam - where is calibre installed? i.e. where is calibre.exe located, default location is C:\Program Files\Calibre2\calibre.exe

When you say you have to run calibre as administrator, I'm guessing you mean run a windows (desktop) shortcut as administrator. What happens if you run calibre.exe by double clicking on it at its install location.

When I double click "Calibre.exe", the message "the library database in D:\Caliber2\caliber library" seems to be corrupt...... ". shows.
The caliber program is installed on D:\
And yes, I run a desktop shortcut as administrator.
