Kobo Mini - Book Covers

Recently bought a second-hand Kobo Mini and have run into an annoying issue. For a lot of books the book cover will not show.

I'm very tech savvy and have tried various things but on many books, the book cover will not show on the Kono Mini device. The cover shows fine if I put the file on my Mac, or on my Samsung tablet.

It seems to be random. Yesterday I copied an epub from the Kobo Mini where the cover does show, renamed the file (did nothing else) and sent the new version back to the Mini. Of course, with the new file (which is identical in every way to the original aside from the file name which is one character different) the book cover does not show.

Any tips? When I uploaded a load of books when I first got the Mini, none of the covers showed. After a while, as I browsed through them, the covers started to show?

Tried Kobo support, but ... er ... yes ...
