Calibre to Kindle (USB) Paperwhite Device not found

Using Win7, Calibre 3.48 (as instructed by website).

New 2022 Paperwhite 11th gen.

Kindle device is visible in Windows Explorer and I can traverse the directories on the device.

Calibre can not see the device (it can see an older 2019 Kindle just fine.)

Ran the Calibre Debug Device Detection algorithm, here is the output:

Spoiler:

It looks like it sees the MTP device but does not recognize it. "No suitable MTP devices found"

Any advice?

Workaround???

To be more detailed, I can't "Send to Device" with calibre (my normal action in the past.)

I can "save to disk" and that seemed to work if I put it in the "Downloaded" directory.

Basically, your version of calibre is too old to support that Paperwhite model. If your operating system allows, upgrade and then install calibre 6.whatever. Otherwise, you are going to be stuck with save to disk.

BTW, the Paperwhite is not a MTP device.

The User Defined device might work in this case. See https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...-connect-to-it

If the computer does not allow an upgrade, then it's time for a new computer.

For many of us, it can come down to a choice as to where we can spend our limited funds. Time for a new computer may require scrimping for months to free up the required funds.

But, it could be that the OP could update to Windows 10 given he's running Windows 7. It depends in the computer will handle Windows 10 well enough and I think it may as the computer in use is running 64-but Windows 7.

The update is still free. https://www.laptopmag.com/uk/article...indows-10-free

IMHO, I see no reason to stay with Windows 7 if the computer can run Windows 10. I've run both and I see no reason to stay with Windows 7.

Jon, your words were "time for a new computer". No mention of a possible Windows 10/11 update which I personally do not consider as a "new" computer.

I said if the computer does not allow an upgrade. The upgrade is what I would do. I did not stay with Windows 7. I moved to Windows 10 and never looked back. I don't get this hate for Windows 10.

Jon, give it a rest. We know you want everybody to upgrade to Windows 10 or buy a new computer running Windows 10/11 if they are not already doing so. The constant repetition is getting very annoying. If you don't have anything to offer other that upgrade or new computer, please skip posting.

It's not "hate". It's choice. There is also a reason why it's the only the 2nd* free upgrade and the first obvious free Download windows. And it does need activated.

[*MS had to upgrade users of NT3.5 to NT3.51 for free because they added some extra Win32 APIs so that Office 95 couldn't be installed on Win 3.11 or Wfwg 3.11 with the Win32s added. They wanted to sell upgrades from Office 4.3 to Office 95 to NT3.5 users/]

I did update a computer running Windows 7 last year and yes, it was activated during the upgrade.
