serif font ttf files used by default in Kindle 4 (no touch)
My old Kindle 4 (no touch) died and I have bought a new kindle Oasis.
The thing is that I really liked the font I used in my kindle 4, the serif one, and I was wondering if there was any way to download the ttf files for that font so that I can sideload it to my new Oasis. Thanks! |

It that was a custom font connect Kindle 4 via USB cable to your computer and copy the ttf files from the "fonts" folder in Kindle drive? You don't need working touchscreen to do that.
For built-in fonts there are ways to extract font files from device's firmware update bin. |

I never owned a Kindle 4 so can't really tell if and what built-in font family was available on that firmware brach used by Kindle 4 and are not?? also available on firmware 5.x.y? Non-condensed version of Caecilia?
Also, IIRC Kindle 4 doesn't? use firmware updates that are complete filesystem images like newer Kindles but instead uses patching / replacing only changed files similar to Kindle 3 / Kindle Keyboards? And that fact probably plays a role in how one needs to approach extracting the font files. What exact font family do you want to continue using on Kindle Oasis? edit: Just checked and yeah, Kindle 4 uses "patching" approach to firmware updates so the font files can't be just extracted from update bin like they can with firmware 5.x.y used by newer Kindle models. Soo, in order to do that you will need to jailbreak your Kindle for and get to font files via SSH / USBNetworking hack... or check if Fonts hack for firmware 4.x also has and option to backup all built-in font files like it does for firmware 5.x. Or ask someone here that also has Kindle 4 that is already jailbreak-ed to do that for you and send you the files via PM. Last edited by shamanNS; 07-13-2022 at 11:07 AM. |

I believe that font is Caecilia. Caecilia is available on your Oasis. It's going to look different because the screen of the Oasis is a hi-res 300DPI screen when the screen of the Kindle 4 is a low res 167DPI screen. Also, the contrast is different between them. But on the Oasis, you can up the weight of fonts if you want.

Thanks, anyway! I guess it's just a matter of getting used to it. |

Caecilia ttf files can be extracted from Kindle PW1's firmware bin file (PW1 has closed PPI to Kindle 4 then Oasis) ... and then you could finetune the boldness using a font editor and after changing its name be sideloaded and used on Oasis.
