Just been given a Kindle K4NT (D01100).What should I do next??

I have just been given a Kindle K4NT ( D01100).To see if I could find a use for it...

So the question is what should I do to get it to it's best running state/compatibility??? Eg firmware hacks, Plugins and Calibre plugins.. Any advices would be great and very much appreciated..

Thanks for that I think... I should have said I used to use a Kobo anyway so I have an elibrary of around 75000 books...

Am more look for ways to improve the ereader. Allow it to do more, install apps etc if thats still possible and if so where from... But I did say this sort of thing in the starting comment!!!!

Most if not all my ebooks are epub/kepubs will they just work or do I need to convert?

as to being a pain, it was free so can't really complain lol

No, only mobi/azw, or if updated Firmware, also azw3.

Amazon prefers epub as format to publish from, or to convert for Send to Kindle. But epub won't work at all. The kepub is Kobo only.

What woud be the best way to convert or would I be correct in thinking Calibre would do it when sending books over?

Separately convert before sending, though if you try to send an epub it will offer to convert it to what ever format is top of the list.
Make sure the FW is last version and the Fonts have a Publisher Option. If there is no Publisher option then you can only convert to old mobi or dual mobi. If there is a Publisher option (at least all Kindle firmware from 3.4.3) then convert to azw3 and make it top of the list of formats in Calibre device driver (may only be visible when Kindle connected).

Your Kindle might support the Kindle Collections plug-in.

You might want to edit the AZW3 css and make the left & right margins -40px which is a good reason to convert before sending as the Kindle default minimum margins are huge!

What software I you talking about??? Kindle firmware?

Do have to MANUALLY convert everything or can this be done in Calibre???You could for Kobo as I converted many from azw3, mobi etc to epubs. And can the margins be set in calibre?

Given how I think I understand what you have said this thing may just be put in the bin!!!

The best solution is to setup Calibre with the 10.0.3 version of DeDRM so you can remove any DRM and if you buy ePub, you can convert to KF8 for your Kindle.

It can be done with conversion as well. Just put the following code in Look & Feel -> Styling -> Extra css:

  margin-left: -25px;
  margin-right: -25px;
}

That's what I use, but of course you can make the margins larger or smaller, as you wish.

" as sad as it may be have a book cover as sleep screen is kinda nice(had it on kobo) so is it still possible?

Sorry, but +45px is for a 300DPI screen. The K4NT is 800x600 so the number is lower. I used to know the appropriate number to use for that screen. But that's been a long time since.
