All sideloaded books removed when i turn Forma on then off ...

I am on the latest firmware on my Forma. I have around 15 kepub sideloaded books on there and that's it.

Every few weeks my Forma freezes and I have to long press the power button to restart. When it comes back on all of my books are gone. Nothing is there!

However I can then try and add one via Calibre or via kepubify via the net and magically they are all back!

Can't work out what's going on!

Sorry but it's the latest there is - 4.32.19501

Likely a faulty book. Less likely is corrupt Flash or database.

Oddly Kids Mode on Kindle hid all "sideloaded" books. I wonder is it either a faulty book or bug in parental control? But I think on a Kobo the only change is web & shop is blocked.

It can't be. Firmware version 4.32.19501 has been out for less than two weeks. As you said it happens "Every few weeks", that means it is impossible for the symptoms you describe to be attributable to that firmware version. But, it does sound like behaviour that was happening with the 4.31 release. If it started in late January, that is probably the case. The updates in 4.32.19501 should fix those issues. Give it some time to see if it happens again.

Presuming it’s a corrupt database from 4.31, wouldn’t the issue persist in 4.32 until the database was remade? Since OP can “fix” the issue by loading a single book which then reveals all the books already on the device?

Ah right.

Yes sorry to clarify, I am on the latest firmware and it happened in the firmware prior.

What is the best way to remake the database?

log out and log back in to the account you have on your Kobo. You might need to re-import the books though I seem to recall they'll stay on the Kobo and just be added once you log in again.

The symptoms do not actually suggest a corrupt database. I had something like it a couple of times when the books partition was mounted as readonly. When I ejected the device, it would import most of the sideloaded books but, it could not actually update the database. Restarting the device would restore everything with no damage apart from the the rude words muttered under my breath.

If it is a corrupt database, then the best thing is to sign out of the Kobo account on the device. When you sign back in, a new database will be generated and the sideloaded books imported. That will mean the loss of reading status and annotations for the sideloaded books. But, as I said above, the database might not be corrupted. As you use calibre, it may give an error when you connect about the corrupted database. Or you can use my Kobo Utilities plugin to do a full check of the databases. It can also backup the database to help recover from issues in the future, or store the reading status of your books to be restored.

That is very helpful - thank you. Yes it is such a weird thing - I might try your plugin to check the database and see what turns up.
