Calibre sends kepubs successfully, doesn't see them on device

My wife uses my old Libra H2O and prefers kepubs, so I sideload her books as kepubs. I maintain a separate caibre library for her, and when I convert her books to kepub, and "send specific format - kepub", it works - a check of the drive shows the files on the device. But no matter what I do, Calibre does not see the devices it sent to the device as being on the device. Help!

To check what is happening:
  • You send the book to the device. Calibre should show the book in the device list.
  • When you look at the drive for the device, the book is there as a kepub.
  • When you eject the device, the book is imported by the device.
  • When you connect again, calibre is not showing the book in the device list but you can still see the book through Explorer or whatever you use.

Is that it? If so, the books should be in the device list. If it isn't, hopefully a debug log would show it.

If it is something else, I need details. For example, if you restart calibre before ejecting the device, the book will not be in the device list. This is because the driver reads the database and any books not in the database are not found. Calibre knows about them until you close calibre, but after that, they are not seen until the device imports them.

When I send to device, they get a green tick next to their name in the "on device" column but when I eject the device, they are not imported. Then when I reconnect the device, they do not have the "on device" tick, but they do show up in my file manager

I've attached the debug log to this post and a screenshot showing what I see when I select kepub to send - I'm guessing the "?" is not a good sign

Firstly, the "?" is not an issue. That is a generic icon because calibre doesn't have one for kepubs.

The problem seems to be the files are not being renamed. I can see:

Code:
DEBUG: 83.4 KoboTouch:upload_cover - path='H:\Huber, Anna Lee' filename='Treacherous Is the Night - Anna Lee Huber'
DEBUG: 83.4 filepath='H:\Huber, Anna Lee\Treacherous Is the Night - Anna Lee Huber.kepub'
That last line should have ".epub" on the end. The driver is supposed to rename this when the kepub is sent. It appears to be because you have the KoboTouchExtended driver enable but have the "Enable Extended Kobo Features" option unchecked. That is a bug, the rename should always be done when a kepub in the library is sent to the device. But, I'm not that surprised that it is hasn't been noticed as the extended driver is fairly pointless if you don't have that option enabled.

My usual recommendation is to either use the extended drive with the "Enable Extended Kobo Features" option on so that books are converted automatically. Or, stick with the built-in KoboTouch driver and convert to kepub if you only want some books sent as kepubs. From the configuration, I assume you are sending epubs for yourself and converted kepubs for your wife. In that case, stick with the KoboTouch driver.
