Clone old Kobo Glo inside a new Clara HD... how?
Hello dear "colleagues" lovers of e-ink,
I am in a bit of a pickle and I need your know-how: in the past 4-5 years I have been using a Kobo Glo for a lot of sideloaded Epubs, and by now I have built a little library full of books with collections, bookmarks, higlighting, notes, etc... and I would hate to lose them all! But, my Kobo Glo battery is going down really fast lately, so I gifted myself a new Clara HD, and now I'm facing the obvious issue: I can't seem to find a good way to "sync" or to "clone" the contents of my Kobo Glo inside the Clara HD! I tried with Calibre and Kobo Utilities, but I can't find the right way to do it, and if I attach both e-readers at the same time, Calibre seems to see only the Clara, while Kobo Utilities will detect both of them at the same time... weird. I can obviously copy and paste all the Epubs file from the Glo to the Clara, but I would like to copy also: collections + bookmarks + % of reading done on the book + highlighting + notes. I don't need the stats of minutes of reading, sessions etc. Any "easy" way to do this? Thank you in advance! |

If you are just after collections and reading status, that can be done via calibre. The steps are basically:
You can manually copy the books from one device to the other which replaces the "Send all books" step. That is probably quicker if you want all the books on the new device. Doing it via calibre will allow you to be selective, but, you can clean up later. For collections, if you are currently using calibre to manage collections, you don't need to do anything extra. This should happen whenever you connect the device. If you do not use calibre for collection management, Kobo Utilities plugin can fetch them into a column and you can then use calibre to update the new device. In the steps above, there are other things needed to fetch the status using the Kobo Utilities. They are the steps to configure this plugin. They are in the help and are discussed elsewhere. If you decide to do it this way and have issues with this, then I can answer any questions or point to guides. Also, calibre will only handle one attached ereader. If you need to do things with two, you need two ereaders, you need to do them separately. And I'm surprised the Kobo Utilities plugin would see both. It uses base calibre functions for accessing the attached device, so it should only know about one. |

Thank you to both for the useful informations!
But if you tell me that the only way to transfer bookmarks + annotations, is that one on the koboy link... I think I'm gonna cry, because well... I've tried everything but it doesn't work, and I think I know the reason: I have 560 books on a 8GB Microsd card inside the Kobo Glo, and only 15 books inside the main memory of the Glo! Problem is: Clara HD has only a main memory, and no external one! So when I do the magic procedure with SQLite and Database file, the Clara will correctly read all the stats for the 15 books in the main memory of the Glo... but all the other 560 are displayed as never read, no notes, no bookmarks, nothing... Unfortunately I'm a newbie on Calibre: on the Glo I've never used it, but I copied 20-30 epubs every time, created slowly my collections during the years, and then obviously read and made bookmarks, annotations, etc.... so now I'm not very proficient in using this wonderfully advanced tools (a lot of options in there!) In the end I could set on having only: bookmarks, annotations and collections... because I can remember which books I've read and which ones I haven't. I will try to know better Calibre and Kobo Utilities, and see what I can do... and If I will not succeed, I will report and ask back! |

Ok, I've tried anything, and I think I've found where my problem is!
I've tried with Calibre, Kobo Utilities, and Annotations plugins... and now at least I have all my annotations on Calibre, but I can't find a way to send them on my Clara HD. But this is normal, because I've read a lot on this forum and from what I understand: if we didn't have the method described in the link of Koboy... it would be impossible with Calibre to fetch the Annotations/bookmarks and then immediately send them to a new device... we can only fetch them to see them on Calibre. So, I've found the issue on my Database, toying with SQLite Personal. What we do in that link is modify the line in "Data", under "User" Database, but we keep the rest identical to the old Database from the old device. Well, my problem is in "Data", under the "Bookmark" Database. I have over 500 records with the path columns that start with file/mnt/sd... while it should be file/mnt/onboard... because the Clara doesn't have the Microsd slot, but only onboard! I think, if I could modify the path for every one of the 500 records, replacing the SD with ONBOARD and keeping the rest identical... my problems would be solved! So the question is: does anybody know how to "automate" the process of finding and replacing every "sd" with "onboard" on the data path column inside a Database? |
