How to remap nova air's "volume buttons" to page up / down

Apparently the nova air's page turning buttons are set as volume up/down in a lot of apps... I would like them to be page up/down in certain apps instead (nytimes, inoreader etc).

It's not enough to rely on certain apps picking it up because I want to permanently rotate the boox to reverse portrait so it's more comfortable to change page up/down and I want the down button to be next page.

Tasker is installed but I have no idea how to map this correctly. Has anyone done this or do you have any guidance?

Normally the physical keys are mapped in /system/usr/keylayout/gpio.kl You can switch them around there. Having the buttons do different things in different apps is a bit non-standard. It would be easier to mod the misbehaving apps to take PU/PD.

I think I'm going to leave the rotation as reverse portrait for most things. I just need get the volume button to be page up/down in nytimes/inoreader/brave browser and in koreader.

i have tried tasker without success as well as button mapper pro. couldn't get it working

koreader lets me do volume up/down page up/down but i'd like to reverse the order.

Try to catch them with Button Mapper

Ah, sorry. You tried it. Doesn’t it get caught when you try to “Add new button”?

Just tried that today; and it doesn't seem to detect it
