Kepub -> PDF problem

Hi there
I am new to the forum, and would need your help. When I try to convert a kepub format book to pdf, downloaded from kobo plus (the desktop app) using the Calibre Obok DeDRM plugin, the book is displayed to me in "strange", unintelligible characters (see an example in attached). The original file not yet converted shows me the same thing. I tried using Epubor for the conversion, and the result is the same. Does anyone know how to help me?
thank you in advance

Garbage in, garbage out. Are you certain that the DRM is being removed from the file?

How did you actually get the kepub? The Obok plugin should add the book as an epub. It doesn't strip the spans that are in a kepub, but, it will be treated as an epub.

But, you mention "Kobo Plus". Is this a book you have gotten through Kobo Plus rather than a purchase. If so, it is possible that it uses a different DRM, and, it is likely that Obok does not support it.

Firstly, epubor is failing is it is largely a wrapper for the DRM removal tools. If one doesn't work, the other won't as either.

And as to why it is not failing, I don't know, but, did make a guess in my previous reply. But, I also won't be be helping to find out. If you read these books in any way other than through the Kobo devices or apps, then the authors are not going to get paid. You can ask at the source of the DRM removal tools you are using. I don't know if they will help or not. The authors up to know have not helped with DRM removal for library books. I assume that they have not helped for Kindle Unlimited and probably won't for Kobo Plus.

I also use Kobo Plus and I tested trying to import one into calibre. This does not work and since as @davidfor said, much like Kindle Unlimited, Kobo Plus depends on you reading the book on one of Kobo's apps/devices to allow the authors to be paid, this is as far as I will take the discussion.
