Calibre display of book list

Greetings all. I appreciate the welcome.

I have the most recent version of Calibre and am thus far flummoxed by my failure to find where/how to fix the following:

The books in the library are displayed in alternating horizontal stripes of black and white (unreadable if not clicked). I don't want those stripes, but the display to be black text on white background, as it was. As you can, please tell me how to accomplish that. Thank you for your time and attention.

Hello and welcome to MobileRead!

Preferences -> Look & Feel -> User Interface Style -> System Default

You'll have to restart Calibre afterwards.

Thank you for the prompt reply. When I navigate to the site, though, there's no indicator present to allow choosing that function. At the bottom of the page, there's a "system default," but after trying it, nothing changed.

Ha! I tried it twice more, and, as is said, the third time's the charm. Now, when I attempt to change font size/style, that doesn't change. Clearly the choices offered are not "clear" to me, for I'm exasperated by the series of failures to effect the changes.

This is...well, really "challenging," for NOW, after getting the display and font changes made, the language is no longer English, and I have no idea what is the language displayed! HELP! Is this another "restore defaults" solution?

In the lower left corner there is a Restore Defaults button. I've added a screenshot.
