Computer Not Recognizing Kobo
My PC just stopped recognizing my Aura H2O. It's the same computer and cable that worked last week, the only thing that happened between then and now is that I rebooted my Kobo. I've tried:
* Restarting both PC and Kobo * Upgrading Kobo firmware via WiFi * Installing Kobo Desktop The Kobo recognizes when it's plugged in, and shows the 'Computer Detected' popup. If I say to connect, it says it's connected and charging. But the PC doesn't see it, no matter what I do. Any tips? |

Does calibre recognise the Kobo is attached?
Can you try connecting the ereader to another pc/laptop and see if it's recognised. Edit Another thought, turn on wifi on the Kobo, and see if your pc recognises it, and maybe your phone. I guess what's important to understand is if you've got a corrupt database in the Kobo, or if it's a cord issue, or a port issue on the pc Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 10-27-2021 at 02:17 PM. |

Calibre also doesn't recognize it. Another PC also doesn't recognize it. I've tried connecting both with WiFi on and off, no difference. I've also tried multiple ports, no dice.
I guess the only thing to do is to wait until I get home this evening and see if connecting through my USB hub works? |

Sounds like a plan.
And I hate to think it, but it may be a corrupt kobo device database, which may just mean reformatting the device, and installing afresh. If that's the case, maybe take screen shots of how you've got it currently set up if you want to to replicate it Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 10-27-2021 at 05:04 PM. |

Another thought, you don't happen to have another kobo device cord hanging around do you? Give that a go, if so.

Should not need a Kobo cord; any usb cable should work.
Does windows device manager show any unknown usb device? Have you tried different usb ports on the PC? If you only have usb 3 ports try connecting a usb 2 hub and using that Does usbdeview from nirsoft show any Kobo devices? Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk |

I was finally able to get home and use another microUSB cable. That seems to be it! It's really frustrating that a nice, sturdy cable which looks completely fine can just stop working for half, and only half, of its intended features. I'll have to figure out what to do with this one.

It's nice if it just stops working... if it short circuits, it can fry your Kobo and the PC itself too. Don't keep broken USB cables around, it's not worth it.

Because a microUSB cable is not worth trying to fix once it's broken. Same goes for most computer cables. It just makes more sense to throw away the defective/broken cable.
