Glo HD Do I have to upgrade firmware to use the new dictionary

My Glo HD still uses Firmware 3.19.5761. I like its UI and speed, but the English dictionary comes with it is a different story. I have heard some good words about the Oxford dictionary bundled with the most updated firmware. Can I use the new dictionary without upgrading firmware?

I also have a Glo HD. Last fall I installed firmware 4.25.15875 specifically to get that dictionary because the one in the original firmware was less than adequate. Yes, there were some slight interface changes, but from here I can't tell you what they were.

One other great benefit is the ability to add additional custom dictionaries easily. I added the Websters1913, and the Chambers dictionaries, along with some of the languages.

This has made my use of the reader so much more pleasant. In fact when I read on my old Kindle keyboard model, currently a Proust biography, I curse my self for putting it on that reader, and have reached for the dictionary a hundred times, before I remembered.

I do remember when that firmware came out last fall there was some questions along the line of yours, but nothing seemed to come of it. I have not seen any speed or other usage changes.

I'm sure someone who really knows will be along and give you a more definitive answer, I'll be watching your thread here to see as well.

if you've got the oxford dictionary zip file then the answer is yes.

Interesting. When I tried the new dictionary on my Mini, it was not a happy camper. That was around Nov/Dec 2020 though I don't remember what firmware revision I was playing with at the time.

And there's also v3, which is quite different, from September 2020 (I haven't gotten around to figuring the details out yet, though).

Yes, the dictionary works on Firmware 3.19. I think it is much better than the old one, but there're 2 issues: some phonetic symbols can't be displayed correctly, and the characters are too small for my eyes.
