Best NAS solution for Calibre?

Hi all:

I'd like to put my library on my Diskstation to browse books from my Kobo. I've seen a number of solutions out there including Docker, COPS, and BicBucStrim. Before I dive into one of them is there one that is easier to do than the others or better overall? They all look a little intimidating so I'd like to see what everyone else likes.

Thanks,

W

I like the solution of not using a NAS for Calibre. It doesn't always work and sometimes when it does work, it can eventually stop working.

Is there a way to keep the Calibre server running on a PC all the time? I don't imagine it's much of a resource hog....

Preferences > Sharing over the net > Run server automatically when Calibre starts

Then add Calibre itself to your PC startup. I don't remember if it's an option in-application but for Windows you can dump a shortcut into the Startup folder. I recommend setting it to a delayed startup if that's an option.

Or you could have have your Calibre library on a raspberry.

Personally, I don't see the point of NAS for home use. And this is one of the reasons why.

I think I'll just stick with Calibre Server for now and see how that works out.

I just manage my books from one pc where I have Calibre installed and set the library as a folder on my nas.

Generally speaking having your library on a NAS is not a good idea. See Do not put your calibre library on a networked drive in the calibre FAQs.

If you dig through the posts here, you will find quite a few of the "I've kept my library on a NAS/cloud storage/etc. for years and now I am getting errors/can't add books/can't send books/whatever" messages.

What good is a NAS for home use? I just don't see it.
