manage your content and devices

I have used calibre send to device via email option for many years. I no longer have the original documents in my calibre library due to changing pcs etc over the years.

I am trying to create a calibre library of all my ebooks/documents, wipe my kindle, edit all the meta data into a better structure and re add any documents/ ebooks I still want to keep on the device after.

the problem I have is that all my documents are in the amazon docs folder on the manage your content page and in the cloud on my kindle.

is there a way of getting these saved to my pc somehow?
then I can clear everything on the amazon page, select the documents from a folder and re import into calibre, edit data then add to kindle via usb?

tutorials online say to go to the manage content and devices and select download to usb. this is not an option on amazon uk.

hope this is not covered elsewhere but I am new to forum and couldn't find anything.

also kindle now allows you to display cover art of books when the device is in sleep mode. none of my books currently work with this but the artwork is there when I open the books, any ideas how to make this work?
