Calibre Error Communicating with Device

Hi Everyone,

I've been using Calibre for a few years now but have just gotten my first error problem and I'm not technically savvy so if someone can help me with easy steps how to fix the problem I would be forever grateful.

{Problem: calibre, version 5.10.1
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device
There was a timeout while communicating with the device in function: Device did not respond in reasonable time}

There is additional information listed in the details (Traceback plus another exception is listed) and I copied the details into a Microsoft Word document.

So what do I need to do now to fix it? I didn't have any problems last time I used program.

Thanking you in advance for any help to solve.

Hmm...still stumped here. Calibre connects/see's tablet but isn't able to check books on the device as it's timing out at around 5 minutes with the connection error code. Calibre is allowing me to add new books but I am not able to send any of them to tablet via my usual wireless connection route.

Does Anyone have any ideas on how to fix without me having to do a complete re-install of the program...which I'm not sure would solve the problem if my backup has the problem too. I have close to 8,000 books in program and cringe to think if I have to add them all back in if back-up is corrupt.

Any and all Help is deeply appreciated.

Forgot to mention trying to send them to Calibre Companion App on tablet.

Tried that several times but hasn't helped. I even deleted all books from one of my tablets and started a clean install. I was able to load all but 692 books...I closed out of program by mistake on desktop while multi-tasking. Immediately signed right back on program and got the same error codes and it wouldn't let me do anything. I guess the only thing left to do is wipe calibre program from desktop and restore library from an older back-up and reverse load a couple of books that I know are not on the back-up. I just wish I knew where problem is originating...a book corruption or program problem..

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

Why do you think this will help? The issue here is probably a network issue. You are connecting to a device on the network that is running Calibre Companion. Have you checked firewalls? Can the device connect to the computer in other ways? Such as using the browser to connect to calibre server? Turn that on and try. Or check if the device can see the computer in other ways. Or the computer can see the device. Depending what is running on the device, it might show up in the network. Pinging the devices IP is always a good test.

I do not use Calibre Companion, so beyond basic network checks, I don't know what else to suggest. Hopefully an expert will come along. But, you definitely should have been mentioned this in the first post. Or the subject of the post.
