Kindle Keyboard restarting before update is complete.
I don't know if there's already a thread about this, if there is please feel free to direct me in that direction, I recently got a Kindle Keyboard from a friend, after getting it home and doing the factory reset I had some issues with registering it with my amazon account after doing some digging I found out that it was out of date. I also realized that since it wasn't updated in time by my friend I can't do anything with it, so I'm manually trying to update it, but it gets about 20 seconds into the update and it says it wasn't successful and restarts. I have tried everything and nothing has worked. I don't know if it helps but I'm using version 3.4.1 (trying to update to 3.4.2) and I'm using windows 10. I know it's old but I was hoping to be able to use it, if any one can help me out that would be great.

Any ideas about the history of the device?
K3 updates were differential (and atomic), meaning anything not matching the exact state it ought to be in for the expected FW version would make it fail without any effective changes. Usually, that meant a custom invasive hack not designed to allow updates, but on stock devices, it's potentially a sign of hardware failure. The system logs (;dm) will have details about the exact failure, which won't really help you if you don't have a backup. That leaves Kubrick, with the caveat that I seem to recall K3 recoveries being a bit more hit and miss than K5 ones. |

I think the Kindle Keyboard is one of the most comfortable eReaders to hold and use. I assume you've downloaded the right version of the 3.4.2 firmware (there's three different versions of each firmware release, B008, B006 and B00A). If you know for certain you have the right software, I would still try downloading it again. It sounds like your original download might be corrupted. (If you've already tried that, you'll probably have to listen to the pros, who know a lot more than I do about this.) Good luck.

I seen some other posts saying that it could have been hacked so I asked her and she said it never has been. And unfortunately I have no idea what kubrick or caveat is.

I am just wondering did you end up figure out how to fix it?? I just got the device from my friend and having exact same issue as yours. So frustrated right now as I have been restarting the device nearly 20 times now. |
