Curious about Cover Browser

Just idle curiosity.

Does anyone use the Cover Browser? And if so, for what?

When I first got Calibre, I looked at the Cover Browser and thought "That is a very nice piece of coding. I am impressed".

I did not however see a use for it in my workflow, but I do find the Cover Grid useful, from time to time. I usually keep Cover Browser and Cover Grid switched off.

Am I missing a trick somewhere?

I had a similar feeling when I used it for the first time: "hm, that looks interesting".
But I won't use it again. I don't find it practical, and it looks a bit 'forced'.

It's probably copied from what iTunes introduced a couple of years ago for music albums.
While it may be somewhat useful for music albums ('yeah, I recognize that cover, play now!'), for books I personally don't think it is very useful.

Nope! I tried it detached (on the second monitor). And while it is real nice Eye Candy, I am in your camp; Grid view (I mostly use it to spot Problem covers)

I use the cover browser. While it doesn't "do" anything for any sort of workflow, it does help me remember a book, as I'm a visual person.

And since I blog a lot, having visuals cues is a huge help. If I do a #6Degrees post, most of my associations between books is because of the covers.

And it just looks nice. I think of it as my virtual bookshelf.

I use it mostly when taking screenshots of my Calibre library to show off to friends. Most times I just use the book list on its own though due to my reliance on column icons.

I put my own covers on fanfic I batch download, and sometimes miss a group. I can see which ones I've missed and go back and slap some in there.

Otherwise, I don't touch it for most of the year.

I like it, and I probably have it turned on most of the time, only turning it off when I need to see a lot of books in the list at once.

It's great for reminding me how big a 900+TBR pile really is!

And I like flicking through the covers.

If the cover browser had a tweak to change the view angle and spacing I'd use it more like with my Audiobooks (see attachment).

Cover grid is my default view, it's a faster than my heavy icon-rule columns, but I often flip between both with the Tab key (Setting>Shortcuts>Misc>Toggle Cover View)
