Question Kinda confused with upgrade...
I can see a bunch of threads in this forum that seem to be useful for those wishing to upgrade the Kindle firmware using hack tools... Being one of those tempted ones and given the number of various instruction threads, I'm confused as to which method I should go with for my 'virgin' Kindle PW. Just checked that I have the 5th generation PW (B024) released back in 2012 with firmware v5.6.1.1, which hasn't been updated for a couple of years now.

Can you pls advise (i) if I can upgrade the firmware from its current version indicated above; and (ii) if I can, which thread should I check for the upgrade?

Your Kindle is already running the latest firmware.

Those threads are for the hackers who like to potentially brick (make unusable) their Kindle by using some modified firmware with dubious enhancements. Unless you have an extra Kindle that you wouldn't mind playing Dr. Frankenstein with and having it go belly up, as JSWolf says, you're fine with what you have.

I explained the problem I'm trying to solve in this thread. I thought about hacking the device and upgrading it with the latest available firmware, however unrelated to the problem my solution might sound.

For me, it was to be able to mange collections from the desktop, although that’s less of an issue now as I’ve switched to Kindle Unlimited and mostly borrow, read and return rather then rereading my older purchased titles.

As a result, I’ve not tried to reenable access after the last few firmware updates to my PW.
