Kobo Touch - broken screen or something else?

Hello everyone,

I bought a second hand Kobo Touch for 10 euros. The seller said the screen was frozen, so I thought I could maybe fix that. I got it unfrozen fairly quickly (by plugging it in and out a PC a couple of times), but the screen remains messed up.

As seen in the picture, the bottom half of the screen is messed up, but since it follows a straight line, instead of the typical(as far as I can tell) random directional cracks, I figured it might be something else than a cracked screen.

So, am I wrong? Is it actually cracked? Even though I've bought a new Kobo Clara as well, it would be pretty neat if this one could be fixed.

My first thought is that it is broken. I've had one Touch in my house that was sort of like that. In that case, half the screen did work.

A factory reset is always something to try. Otherwise, open the device and check the cable for the screen is plugged in properly and not damaged. You can also check the back of the screen. The back shows some breaks better than the front, and sometimes it is at the edge where it is hidden.

Thanks for the tips. I tried a factory reset, and after that didn't solve the issue I opened it up, and disconnected and reconnected the ribbon cable. I'm unsure of how to remove the screen though, it seems glued to the front part of the shell.
Anyway, I'm now fairly convinced the screen is physically broken anyway. I might take it apart again and see if I can get the screen out, if only just for the fun of it.

Well, it was worth a try for 10 bucks I suppose. Thanks again for the tips!

Given that the text is showing up on the lower half of the screen, I would say that it could very well be an issue with the screen controller.
