Try running Calibre in safe mode and see if it works. If it does, then something that runs at startup is the problem.

As far as I recall, fail fast exceptions are tossed by Windows. The first time I ran into this, it was an issue with a Windows Insider build of Windows 10. The second time, it turned in a finger pointing exercise between Dell and Microsoft. After updating the Latitude laptop with all the updates Dell had, running Windows Update and sfc (run sfc /scannow from an administrative command prompt), the problem went away. The third time was an issue with an "AV" program which broke Windows -- an "AV" which should never have been installed on a corporate laptop never mind that you got a popup saying you needed to update your antivirus now. End users, you can't live with them and you are not allowed to shoot them.

There isn't any such thing as a fail fast exception in calibre code, so its coming from elsewhere, most likely some interfering third party software such as an antivirus.

Thanks for your responses. Good to know that the error is not generated by calibre. The error is annoying, but does not interfere with calibre. I will therefore endure it for the time being. I am switching to a new PC in a few months at most anyway. |

i tried to reproduce this, i couldn't but I hit a different error. " open with " seems beoken whatever a select for it to use ( it was set up with 3 options: claibre, ADE, Sigil) all fail like below( NB i have not used open with for ages, my default workflow is open with sigil via a double click and that works OK, but all of those 3 choices lead to the same error - broken config? ) Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre_plugins.open_with.action", line 198, in open_with File "calibre_plugins.open_with.action", line 256, in launch_app error: (2, 'CreateProcess', 'The system cannot find the file specified.') ps view with calibre viewer works ok and closes ok - no errors UPDATE - my fault- I had moved sigil location and bot told the plug in- it works now Last edited by stumped; 02-16-2020 at 03:50 AM. |

I had the same problem after update to version 4.10.0 (error shows after exiting the reader) When updating to version 4.10.1 (also updated some plugins) it went away! No system changes. (now: Windows 10, Calibre 4.10.1, Windows Defender AV) Last edited by Horus68; 02-18-2020 at 09:10 AM. |
