open a book .mobi with calibre is taking 15 minutes, normal ?????

Hi team….

I'm knew with Calibre

Well it take 15 minutes for a .mobi book to open. It's a 31 megs book….Well, is it normal ?????

And i've try a conversion to PDF, and doesn't work…

Calibre seem very powerfull and versatile , but very hard to understand and operate….

Convert to epub and open that.

The calibre viewer only works with ePubs. For other formats it converts to ePub before displaying.

Really? How is this possible? I mean, I can open a MOBI or a KFX for the first time in just a couple of seconds, but converting them can take more then 1 minute.

I dont know…. It a book of 31 megs .mobi and the book is very well done (configured)… many inside links for commentaries, also images, etc, etc.… But 15 minutes for opening is peculiar…

If convert in Epub, does that will change is configuration, like those interns links , images, etc.…… ?????

P.S. I didn't receive email related to yours notifications… i did activated the: Instant Email notification do…..

It (temporary) converts to EPUB on the fly . Always has for any other format.

It won't change the MOBI, but it may take some time to create the EPUB. Convert time is a primarily a function of complexity rather than size.

It doesn't produce an EPUB as you'd expect from a regular MOBI/AZW3->EPUB Conversion, just something universal that the calibre viewer can handle - sometimes called a 'mini conversion'. Because EPUBs aren't mini-converted, it's convenient to think of mini-conversion as conversion to EPUB.

Open a MOBI in the Viewer that you've not viewed before, and then search the content of calibre's cache folder for the book title. It'll be found in a folder named something like <cache>\ev2\f\tmprjokif which will contain something like this:

<cache>\ev2\f\tmprjokif\images (folder)
<cache>\ev2\f\tmprjokif\calibre-book-manifest.json
<cache>\ev2\f\tmprjokif\calibre-book-metadata.json
<cache>\ev2\f\tmprjokif\index.html
<cache>\ev2\f\tmprjokif\styles.css
<cache>\ev2\f\tmprjokif\titlepage.html

Now do the same with an EPUB, in the cache you'll find the unpacked EPUB.

You mean that Calibre soft, in reality, only view (open) a ePub... So when i want top view the .mobi of 31 megs, it made temporarely a conversion in ePub... ????? So that's why it take 15 minutes to open ???????

So the solution is to convert the .mobi in a Epub format ????? If yes, what are the best settings (parameters) to do....?

Start with the default settings.

It may take just as long (or longer) to do a real conversion to the EPUB format as it takes to do a mini-conversion to the viewers 'universal format'.

Added: why don't you read it in a native Mobi viewer? Possibly via the Open With feature.

I use the now ancient reader.exe from Mobipocket, it opens MOBIs in about 2 seconds flat, I would guess Amazon has replaced it with something supposedly better.

Are talking of Acrobat Reader.exe ?

Because i found nothing about-it ?

Acrobat is a PDF Reader from Adobe

Search for "mobi reader for <your OS - e.g. windows>" - the Mobipocket reader I use is on some of the download sites, be careful with them, some will give you more than you want.
