Lightbulb Opening Multiple files in Calibre's ebook reader TIP

I had been trying to open multiple files from a file folder in the reader app without adding all the files to the calibre library, but only one file would open of the batch I selected. Then I discovered this when I used right click rather than hitting enter.

To open multiples, select your files from the folder up until you right click and can still see the 'open' option in the menu that opens. If that option disappears, you have selected one too many and calibre will only open one to view. I think the default number is 15.

I found this out of desperation to open a batch of epubs all at once without adding them to calibre library. Microsoft Edge used to be my go to method, but this works, even if I'm limited to 15 or less.

Hope this helps someone.

I think that a Windows 'thing', if I select 20 .txt files (which has Notepad++ as the default handler) and right click there's no Open option.

What happens if you select 16 .epub files and then press Enter, rather than look for right click Open. I get an "Are you sure you want to open all those files" message, if I confirm then the 16 files are opened in the default handler - ebook-viewer.exe.

Interestingly, if I select multiple .mp4 files and right click, the Open is replaced by Play (even if it's just 2 files), and if I select more than 15 files I don't get the "Are you sure…" message. My default handler for .mp4 files is the Movie & TV player that comes with Win 10.

Windows 10 allows 15 files to be selected. One can increase that by adding a definition to the registry - google MultipleInvokePromptMinimum.

OMG thank you, where do I find this in Windows 10 registry editor? There are like a million registry files I can edit. X(

Try a Google search for that term.
