How to darken text in e-book viewer without brightening background?

I am running Calibre 4.6 x 64. I seem to recall that, in previous versions, there was an option to darken the text in the e-book viewer while keeping the background a gray color. Is it still possible to accomplish that balance?

You can choose whatever colors you like in the viewer preferences under colors

Hi Kovid: Yes, indeed. What if I wish to darken the text further than the standard black? There was an option in previous versions to make it bold, as I recall for those of us who prefer a more defined contrast between text and background.

There was no such option. If you want to make all text bold, you can do so via the custom stylesheet preference, which is the same as it was in the previous version. Something like

* {font-weight: bold !important}

What if one wished to vary the intensity of the boldness factor? Will the program recognize DemiBold, Ultra, Heavy, etc. in the stylesheet config?

Those are NOT allowed CSS names for font-weight:
https://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_font_weight.asp

note: numeric font weights are not widely supported. For personal use, if it works
FWIW 'brightness' is not a term used for ebooks. there is no LIGHT in many devices to make brighter. You can sometimes choose a color/greyscale (my older device was limited to 16 levels. up from 8 of the previous model)
