A real book reading experience? The first question that comes to mind is what you mean by that? Two page view? The page turn curls like a physical page? Emulating the look of paper that has been around for a century? No font size choices? No tapping the ToC entry to go to the page without flipping a few hundred pages? No carrying a few hundred books in your pocket?
For me, words on the page is the real reading experience. All else is lagniappe. You could set coolreader as a default for supported formats as a simple solution. Or as a bit of an expensive solution, you could print the ebook and have it bound or simply buy the pbook -- nothing says real book like a kilogram of paper in your hands. |

Sorry, but a 'real book' reading experience is what e-reader devices eliminate
![]() It used to be rare that 'a hard bound book', was more than 1.5 inches thick. Now it seems rare that they are LESS than 2.5 inches thick. IMHO that is also too heavy to hold for any length of time (thicker, also means longer reading times), let alone haul around on your commute. (Similar changes have affected Mass Market Paperbacks) Same thing goes for the Calibre Viewer. The laptop is just too awkward to use or drag around on a commute (let alone, subject to 'snatch and grab' thefts) IMHO The Calibre viewer is fine for PREVIEWING a book, but I'de rather slouch in my reading chair with my 6 ounce e-ink reader ![]() |

Possibly, depending on what you are referring to. I have attached my current calibre viewer look. I use this setup on the rare occasion I read on the computer to cut the glare. But most of the time I use an ereader to read my books.

Cave walls were real books in their time. These were/are all REAL. Yellowed pages are simply a sign of old age. Those paperbacks on my shelf, did not start out yellowed. That is due to time and chemical residues left in the paper.Clay tablets were books in their time. Scrolls were real books in their time. Bound sheets of material are the hard copy current books Electrically alterable displays are the emerging book of our period. I chose an e-ink device because I can HOLD IT and read in many places (unlike the first 3 items on my list above). The second reason (which more closely matches the previous version), is I can read the complete (typical content) book on a single charge. |

So if you want a real book reading experience, then get reading the book you have. @rockstar, you've come to the wrong place and asked the wrong question. Last edited by JSWolf; 10-28-2019 at 10:52 AM. |

Actually, I would like to see the logo modified to : mobilREAD READ is what our goal is. Mobile (portable) devices is how most of us do it. ![]() |

1955 458 x 336 x 430 mm / 18 x 13.2 x 16.9 inch 29 kg / 63 lb 14 oz I like paper books. However I often prefer my eink reader. Reading an entire book on a laptop, tablet or phone is an evil experience compared to an eink reader, even an ancient one. Paper is superior to most laptops. The sheer space taken by my paper books is a problem. A few are unsuitable for ANY current screen. However, while I have a paper copy of Magician, I'm only likely to re-read my ebook copy. The eink dedicated ereader gives a real reading experience for most novels. Sometimes a better reading experience than paper. |
