Calibre doesnt see ebooks on my Nook

I'm new to Calibre. New as I JUST downloaded the app on my laptop. I connected my Nook and Calibre recognizes my device, but I can't see books on my Nook.
I also have a Kindle app on my Nook. I purchased a book from Amazon through Calibre, and the book was immediately sent to my Kindle app, which is fine, but I was hoping it would also save the book in Calibre library. I do not understand at all how Calibre works. I was hoping to be able to buy books and convert them into pdfs, if needed. Or buy Amazon books but send them directly to Nook, since the Kindle app is kind of annoying.
Can anyone please help me with this?

First, forget the Nook books. They're almost impossible to de-DRM and convert these days. The books on your Nook are in a hidden folder and no, Calibre can't see them or do anything about them.

As to the Amazon books, it's entirely possible to convert them and read on another device, but it takes a little tinkering, because most books are protected with DRM (Digital Rights Management). I suggest you read about it here: https://apprenticealf.wordpress.com/
