Sage Connection to Computer

My first blip with the Sage: I cannot get the device to communicate with my computer. I read for a few hours after receiving it, until the low battery sign appeared. Then plugged it in and saw the indicator light come on indicating it was charging. But no connection to my PC, though plugged in via USB, just as I have always done with my Forma and Aura One. Tried a different cable; no luck. Changed USB ports. No luck.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you tried plugging the cord into a wall charger, to see if the device will charge. (and how annoying for a new device to just not do what it's supposed to do, lol)

As a by the way, does a wall charger come in the box with the sage?

They’ve did mention a charging indicator comes on. As to the wall charger no, Kobo haven’t included the wall charger in quite awhile. You just get a USB A to USB C cable.

Wonder why kobo didn't build into the device a usb c connection. A fiddly usb a (yes, I have plenty of double ended usb c cords these days, but usb a are obsolete in my world, lol).

And that's interesting that the device isn't considered to need a transformer for the wall connection, my forma came with the transformer.

USB A is the end that plugs into the computer, the Sage has USB C. Though I suppose you could use a USB C/C cable.

I’m also pretty sure that my Forma did not come with a wall transformer.

Well this is interesting. I finally wondered whether the sleep cover had something to do with the lack of connection. So I opened the cover before I inserted the USB. And now it works. I guess something is going on with opening and closing the sleep cover that interferes with the device. This is the first time I ever ran into this -- I always kept both my Aura One and Forma in the cover when I plugged into the PC.

I bought a couple of USB-C/C cables for the new Kobos (my newest laptop only has USB-C ports). I hope they work and it's not wasted money. Kobos are known to be fussy about ports and cables.

As to a wall charger, I still use the one I bought from Amazon in 2011 with my first Kindle. I've charged all my ereaders with it.

For what it's worth, I've used a couple of USB-C/C cables to connect my Sage to my laptop. I've also used 2 Thunderbolt 3 & 4 cables without issue.

Derr, twit much me, of course it's the Kobo that has the c fitting, that's what I've been reading everywhere

And the more I think about it, the more I realise that my kobo transformer is probably the one that came with my first kobo device purchase, and I just continue to re use it. (Apparently not needing to

Not one of my Kobo-devices came with a loader, USB-cables only. And I have had 4 of them.

I've also noted that my Sage does not connect to the computer when the sleep cover is closed. This may be tied to it being rather hard to tap on the connect/cancel button when the cover is closed.

edit: I haven't tried this with the automatic connection enabled (AutoUSBGadget in the Kobo eReader.conf file).
