Bulk Transfer Ebooks over Wifi to Glo HD?

Hi, the USB connection to my Kobo seems to be broken as per my other thread. I have however managed to connect the content server in Calibre to the browser on the Glo HD and downloaded a couple of books.

Only problem is Im a bit of a hoarder so I have hundreds of books I havent read yet, whats the best way to transfer them wirelessly in bulk to my Glo HD please? I lost my collection to a factory reset when trying to fix the USB problem.

You can only download one book at a time with the browser AFAIK, but if you are willing to open up your Kobo, you could install a SSH server on it to transfer using SFTP (or transfer the books directly to the SD card).

Thanks, I suppose I could open it and move them to SD that way, is there an ebook folder on the Glos SD card where I specifically drag them to?

The SD card is split into multiple partitions, one of which is the KOBOeReader partition, which is identical to the one you get with the USB connection. You can copy books there as usual (and Calibre might recognize it, but I'm not familiar with it's detection mechanism).

Note that you will only see the partition on Windows 10 1703 and higher. If you don't see it, you can use a Linux live USB to do the copying.

So if I put the SD card in a USB SD card reader and plug it in I should see that or is there more to it? Thanks for all your help.

I put my epub collection in the root of the SD card after extracting it and plugging it into a card reader, everything seemed to go okay but when I rebooted the device it just looks empty, am I missing something here? None of the books had DRM or anything, they're just plain epub files from various sources...

Any clue what Im doing wrong?

Hmm, it may be the way imports are done (I haven't looked at that in a while). Try copying a KoboRoot.tgz with a SSH server into the .kobo directory and see if it applies the update. Also enable the ForceWifiOn option in the developer settings so it doesn't disconnect properly. Then, use OpenSSH or PuTTY to connect to the Kobo's IP and run 'echo usb plug add > /tmp/nickel-hardware-status', press the connect button, then run 'echo usb plug remove > /tmp/nickel-hardware-status'.

@NiLuJe, @davidfor, do you know anything about the way Kobo does imports (I don't have time to check myself right now)?

After putting it back together I tried plugging it into the pc to see if removing and reinstalling the SD card had done anything for my USB issues (plug in gives a device disconnected error and a USB device failed error in Win 10 and Win 7).

I got the same result there but after I removed the USB cable it went to a black screen with Importing Content and a slowly loading bar, after it hit 100% all 700 books showed up in my Library so at least thats sorted.

The battery still seems like its on its way out though, charges slowly to 100% over a few hours then drops to 70% when you unplug. Might just be time for a new reader...

Thanks for all your help Geek1011.

Oh, wait a sec, that seems like an issue I've encountered before. Does it work through a hub (if your keyboard or monitor has USB ports, those count as hubs)?

Well, I guess I just suggested the long way around that. I was under the impression your USB ports weren't even being detected in the first place ! At least it works now.

I'd agree with that. Either way, I think you should install a SSH server on your Kobo so you don't have to open it up every time to transfer stuff. NiLuJe and I both have binaries for that (but I'd suggest going with NiLuJe's, as mine are packaged with my personal patches too).

Yep, just to confirm that needing an USBMS session (real or faked) is the expected behavior to get brand new content to import, when said content was introduced by non-standard means (i.e., not via on-device USBMS) .

And because it was just mentioned, my set of binaries is available over here .
