Calibre using Sumatra PDF as a reader

Whenever I click on a PDF inside calibre, it opens up using Sumatra as a PDF reader. Is there any way I can state my preferred viewer for PDFs?

Not within Calibre. Instead you do it at the system level and then Calibre will use whatever is set as the system PDF reader.

confirm itimpis answer
Systems PDF or Calibres viewer (off by default)

But Wait
Open With Plugin allows custom viewers/editors...
Calibre also has an Open with (I don't use this one), that has some configuration.

@Jodofin - you must have Sumatra as the default PDF handler in your OS settings, if you change that to whatever (Acrobat, PDF XChange, ...) calibre will use it.

Or Calibre itself has a built-in OpenWith, i.e. no need for a plug-in. Right click on a PDF in Book Details and follow your nose.

Chances are that calibre will have detected all the available PDF readers and configured them. FX: I didn't add Chrome and IrfanView as PDF readers, they set themselves up as PDF handlers, calibre detected them, bingo I can use them from calibre - PDF XChange is my default PDF reader.

You can invoke an Open XXX With program from within View->Specific format. And you can assign keyboard shortcuts to Open With settings in Preferences->Shortcuts - as I have for PDF XChange.

Hmmm: Firefox and Edge aren't in the PDF list? I think I know why not Edge, to use it in Open PDF With I need to tell calibre about EdgeLaunch, but why not Firefox - a backwards Quantum leap Ψ³

Tip: when you can't find something in calibre right click in the likeliest of places.

Firefox needs a Plugin to do PDF, just like IE

You must be using an ancient version of Firefox, this is on 65.0.1

Firefox hasn't needed a PDF plugin for many years, pre-Quaintarm versions had built in PDF support.

It is up to date, I just assumed that Adobe was keeping FF current when it did updates.

I haven't had Acrobat on any machine since I found something faster in the early '90s. I forget what, wasn't XChange that came later. Ah yes I can - Foxit. Not sure why I switched to XChange, might have been more features in its free version than Foxit Free.

Nor can I recall when FF got built-in PDF support, it must be at least five years ago. I've always been a minimalist, hence I always prefer bulltin to addin/plugin/bolton etc
