Accessories Kindle Oasis case

This is a slightly strange problem. The case for my 2016 Kindle Oasis has a slightly strange smell about it. I've seen that sometimes cases can have a smell to them; someone who bought a Kobo case had a similar issue. I haven't spilled anything on it so it isn't that. What would you recommend to mitigate it? I wouldn't bother with something like this but it is noticeable enough when reading to be distracting. Should I leave it by an open window for a few hours, or something else?

Put it in a sealed bag with some crumbled newspaper, and leave it a few days. Change the paper daily.

Do the same using activated charcoal, or kitty litter.

I've had some plastic or rubber items over the years that never lose the petroleum based odor they emit. Usually a good airing out takes care of it.
