Voyage - Can't "go to" Chapters
I've a Kindle Voyage which, for the most part, I'm very happy with.
But I recently bought Jared Diamond's "Collapse - How Societies Choose to Fail or Survive" - from the Amazon Kindle Store. This long book is in four main "Parts", with a further subdivision into chapters. The chapters are numbered continuously through the book, so that, for example, Part Three starts at chapter 10. When I use the "go to" function in the Voyage, there are two oddities. The main one, and the most annoying, is that it is impossible to "go to" any particular chapter. The best you can do is go to the beginning of one of the Parts - and each part contains several chapters. The second oddity is that if you are at the beginning of the book, you can only "go to" the beginning of the main section of the book (it covers locations 522 to 9624). You have to open a page somewhere there before you can then go to one of the four Parts. I wouldn't mind this very much, but I found it easy to lose my place in the book. The pictures are all at the end, with a hyperlink in the text to take you there (but not back again). If you have fat thumbs like me, it's easy to hit the Voyage's "home" icon rather than the "go back" arrow. After that you have to guess at your previous location or page to resume reading. It's not the book's fault. If I open it in the Calibre reader, the sections, Parts and Chapters are all nested nicely in the "Table of Contents" on the sidebar, with the ability to expand or contract them. Well done Mr Goyal! Any ideas or workarounds to suggest? Incidentally, I thoroughly recommend Jared Diamond's book for some very timely views on ecology and society. |

I think the Kindle has a limit of two levels in a TOC; that's probably what you're hitting here.
You can, by the way, still use the "back" button to get back to where you were even if you accidentally touch the "Home" button. Just tap "Back" twice - it works between books. |

It must be the way that book is setup. I have books that are the works of different authors and I am not having that issue.

On the second, I'm sure you are right. In trying to reproduce my "lost in a good book" problem, I found that persisting with the back arrow would eventually take me back where I was. I must simply have been insufficiently persistent. Thanks again, Harry |
