I've responded to this in the Kobo Start Menu 09 thread in this message: KSM 08 Message #28.

Basically, the point that your KA1 turns off and back on with a long press on the power button is a good sign that you should be able to do a factory reset. Please note that a factory reset is exactly what it sounds like -- your KA1 will be set back to where it was when it left the factory, added books, fonts, etc. will all be removed and the firmware will at the factory version so will need to be updated.

You don't need any other patch , just only use this patch 09.

Because of the reader is brick, Now , you need to connect usb to reader and PC, and long press power button, until begins to restore. This operation will reset the reader to original factory version.
