Authors seem to be out of order

I'm having a issue where if I sort my library by author, certain fields that I expect to follow each other, don't. For Example:

Shouldn't Patricia Briggs - Hurog follow Patricia Briggs?

I think it's sorted by the author's last name, and taking the last word in the authors column as the last name. So "Patricia Briggs - Hurog" is sorted under H.

You appear to be including Series (or title) in the author field.
That is going to mess the sort up big time.

Open the tag browser (Authors) and you will see MANY authors that start out the same... but.

Sorting of Authors actually makes use of the Author_Sort field rather than the Authors field. However the default for this is ‘lastname, firstname(s)’ but the default rule for deriving this from the Authors field is going to be completely messed up if you include series information in the Authors field.

Is there any reason you are not using the series and associated series_index fields for this purpose? That is after all what they are designed for. If it is for sorting on the reading device, then Calibre has specific features for massaging the Metadata and/or filename when a book is sent to a device.

I feel like I should know what your talking about, but I'm not sure. It's possible I've used those without knowing it. Do you mean the sort fields across the top or the sort trees on the side?

If you do a Metadata Edit on a Single Book: You see the sorts for Author and Title. If they are Red, they don't agree with the current sort rules set in tweaks

The Quality Check PI can find All the 'Reds' for Authors or Titles
The Tag Browser uses Sort (field) Rules, but shows the regular field
