How is stated the default format among several?

Hello !

When I have a book with several available formats, how can I make one of them be the default format to open specifically for this book?

I think that in general the default format which will be opened for a book is the first format entered in the database at the creation of this item of the database. But if I later add several other formats, how can I change the default format to be opened for this book.

Example:

I have created an item "Charles Dickens, the complete collection all-in-one" by importing this book in the MOBI format.

Then a few days later, I add the EPUB and the PDF format to this item (exactly the same book but now in these two new formats, both have been added by a drag&drop in the container visible in the metadata management pane of the item) in the database. Therefore the item contains automatically now the three books in its internal directory. I of course can choose the format to open by a special click each time at the rightmost side of Calibre. But I now have to click each time in this special link so it's not perfect. From now on I would like that for this item it is never more the MOBI format which must be opened by the button "View" in the tool bar at the top of Calibre but the PDF format.

How must I do ? I have not found the answer in the help of Calibre.

Thank you!
Jacques

I don't think you can't set the preferred format for an individual book, you can set it for all books in Preferences->Behaviour->Preferred Input.

I always use the View specific format option so that I can select which format I want at the time, to make it easier I changed it's keyboard shortcut to 'V' (I have the [default] View shortcut set to 'None').

Thank you BetterRed.

Following your clue I just saw the option "Vew specific format". I have understood also how to permute the shortcuts with the common "View" action.

But for my wife who is not friend with the shortcuts, I would like to know also if it is possible to put directly a button "View Specific format" in the toolbar or to make it the default action of the "View" button. Even by a script, why not... Because currently the toolbar manager seems to not allow it, it allows only the common button with its submenu and with the common "View" action set by default but seems to not allow any change in its action set by default.

The View plugin (built in) doesn't have any configuration. If there was an option to define the default action for View button click, that's where I would expect to find it. Maybe Kovid would consider adding it.

You could take the keyboard shortcut 'V' away from 'View' and give it to 'View specific format', as I have done, viz:

Name:	4.JPG
Views:	126
Size:	21.9 KB
ID:	157599

Or add View->View specific format to the Favourites Menu - optional plugin - that may suit your wife better.
